MICHAEL SHEEN’S Passion “was a tremendous boost to the local economy”, businesses said yesterday.
They said the 72-hour performance, which began in Port Talbot on Good Friday, has put the town “on the map”.
Calls have now been made to give the Hollywood actor, brought up in Baglan, recognition for raising the town’s profile.
During the marathon event, Sheen performed sequences on Port Talbot’s beaches, hills and streets, including “The Trial” at Civic Square, “The Procession” at Station Road and “The Cross” on Aberavon seafront.
Neath Port Talbot Council’s head of economic development Gordon Andrews said: “This event was a tremendous boost to the local economy. The whole area benefited.”

The actor Michael Sheen – known for his portrayals of public figures such as Tony Blair and David Frost – is involved in a mammoth version of the Passion Play, to be staged in his hometown Port Talbot in Wales, this Easter.
He discusses getting the massive three-day project off the ground, and the logistics of managing a cast of over a thousand in a variety of locations.

Michael Sheen linked to Burton’s ‘Dark Shadows’

Michael Sheen is the latest actor to be linked to a role in Tim Burton’s new film project Dark Shadows.
According to The Playlist, the Frost/Nixon star is currently “in talks” for an unknown role in the film, having already worked with Burton on last year’s Alice In Wonderland.
If cast, Sheen would join fellow Burton alumni Johnny Depp, Helena Bonham Carter and Michelle Pfeiffer, as well as the likes of Eva Green and Jackie Earle Haley.

Michael Sheen Wants Port Talbot Involved in His Production of ‘Passions’
February 3rd, 2011 admin MOVIE star Michael Sheen is determined to put his home county on the map in more ways than one.
He is coming home this spring to direct and star in Passions, an ambitious reworking of Port Talbot’s traditional passion play.
It will be performed continuously at various locations over the Easter weekend, with the town and its people playing vital roles.
Now the production team is calling on schools and community groups across the county to piece together an important prop — a giant blanket.
“I want to encourage the community to get involved with Passion,” said Michael.
Passions will be brought to life by Michael, the National Theatre Wales and the Wildworks theatrical company.

The film will be directed by Dave McKean who made Mirrormask with a theatrical release planned for later in the year.
