Stephenie Meyer one of Forbes’ ‘Most Powerful Women’

Stephenie Meyer, beloved author of the Twilightseries books, has been chosen by Forbes as one of the “World’s Most Powerful Women.”

Meyer placed 49th on the list of one hundred, with the publication issuing the following synopsis:

“Following the J.K. Rowling model of mum-turned-mega-millionaire, Stephenie Meyer had held only one job, as a receptionist in an Arizona property company before penning the bestselling Twilight series, which has sold 116 million copies worldwide. Meyer’s vision of a world where vampires and teens co-exist may be to blame for the blood-lusting trend that continues four years later with TV series like The Vampire Diaries. Her sci-fi romance novel, The Host, spent 26 weeks as a bestseller and is rumored to be in pre-production for a 2011 release. Meyer says she will be focusing her efforts on the final installments of the Twilight movie franchise, set to arrive in theaters in November 2011.”

The good thing about Stephenie Meyer being a part of this is that she, like a lot of the other women included, has used her influence for the benefit of others as well. For example, her most recent release, Bree Tanner: An Eclipse Novella, helped raise millions for the American Red Cross.

‘Twilight’ star Ashley Greene’s dress to be auctioned off for charity

‘Twilight’ star Jackson Rathbone does GoDaddy.com commercial with 100 Monkeys

Jackson Rathbone (“Jasper Hale” in the Twilight Saga films) is definitely a unique guy. He’s multi-talented, humble, and witty to boot. So, to see that he’s joined his bandmates from the 100 Monkeys in a new GoDaddy.com commercial isn’t terribly surprising at all.

The group traveled together to promote Girlfriend(which stars Rathbone and Jared Anderson – also from the band) at the 2010 Toronto International Film Festival in Canada, and new tour dates for their concert series have been announced here.

This isn’t the first commercial Jackson Rathbone’s been a part of, either . . . although it might win the award for zaniest costuming. He can be seen in a variety of commercials such as an Anti-Smoking ad,a Mastercard commercialan ad for Proactive, and one for Sears jeans, to name a few.

‘Stretch Armstrong’ director reveals expectations for Taylor Lautner

Taylor Lautner‘s coming Stretch Armstrong writer/director Nick Stoller (hired in April) has spoken up about what fans can expect to see from Lautner and the film whenever it is made. “He will not wear a shirt. Yeah he won’t wear a shirt through the whole thing . . . I’m sure we will find a way for him not to have his shirt on at some point in the movie,” he teased to MTV’s Hollywood Crush.

“It’s really exciting to get to work with a star who’s just so, like, white hot right now . . . And he’s just this really nice kid, it’s such a funny thing to witness. And he’s smart. He’s got really good notes on the script. He’s just the real deal and, yeah, he happens to have an awesome six pack.”

Taylor Lautner spent the summer filmingAbduction, with a role he described to be “a regular guy who is in an interesting situation.” Abduction is really the story of a boy who finds out he is listed as a missing person and has to seek the truth about himself and his family.

In Stretch Armstrong, on the other hand, Lautner would be an outright “superhero.” Back in June,Lautner said “The cool thing with the toy is that there is no story. Like with a superhero you have to stay along these lines, but with a toy you get to create everything, which is super exciting and creative.” Then, there was no finalized script since Stoller was only hired a few weeks prior.

It should be interesting to see what further details about the project are offered in the coming months.Breaking Dawn: Parts 1 and 2 will film between November and March of next year, so Stretch won’t go into production until next year.

‘Twilight’ news wrap

A couple of interesting Twilight related tidbits popped up this weekend, so to catch up on some of the stories which might’ve been missed, here’s aTwilight news wrap.

First, Rachelle Lefevre (“Victoria” in Twilight andThe Twilight Saga: New Moon) did a really interesting interview with Red Carpet Diary’s The YouTube Conversation about her work in Barney’s Version. She talked about the difficulties of portraying her character as well as the exciting things she got to do in Rome, Italy while filming the movie. You can check it out in full here. Rachelle Lefevre had two films which showed at this year’s Toronto Interntaional Film Festival – both Barney’sand Casino Jack.

Second, Muse’s bassist and keyboardist Chris Wolstenholme had an interview with The Sacramento Bee in which he talked about howTwilight has affected the band, saying “It really helped. I think in this day and age when people don’t go out and buy as many records, you use things like that to expose yourself to people who don’t know the band. It caused more of a buzz, and more people came out to see us live, and now it is sort of catching up. We are playing in arenas over here, and we are really enjoying it. I think that is what we always wanted but we thought we could never have.” You can read the rest here. As you know, Muse has appeared on the albums forTwilight (with “Suppermassive Black Hole”), The Twilight Saga: New Moon (with “I Belong to You”), and The Twilight Saga: Eclipse (with “Neutron Star Collision (Love is Forever)”). So, it’s great to hear that the Saga has made such a positive impact on the group.

Thirdly, a new potential film route for Kristen Stewart was discussed this weekend by sources like HollywoodNews.com, which suggested that “she may be venturing into a film with Ron Howard and Brian Grazer” as “an underage prostitute who inadvertently kills a gang member and then goes on the run.” Of course, talks of Stewart’s interest may be premature or completely untrue, especially given the similarity between this supposed role and her work as “Mallory” in Welcome To The Rileys, so for now it’s just a rumor.

Michael Sheen (“Aro” in The Twilight Saga: New Moon) will be taking on an Easter Passion Play soon, and you can read more about that here. Apparently, Sheen has dedicated January through March to the project, so we better hope the “Volturi” sequences for The Twilight Saga: Breaking Dawn – Part 1 and The Twilight Saga: Breaking Dawn – Part 2 are being filmed somewhere in the November-December range!

Highly anticipated role of ‘Renesmee’ now being cast for Breaking Dawn Part I

The casting directors for “The Twilight Saga: Breaking Dawn Part I” are now casting the role of “Young Renesmee”. They are looking for a young girl who has some acting experience and is confident on a film set environment. This girl should have self-composure, good physical posture, and be very attentive, able to take direction well, and be quick to react. They also would prefer a girl with dance training.

The casting directors are not having open casting calls for this role due to the extremely high profile nature of the project. Rene Haynes, who was the casting director that handled Native American roles for the Twilight Saga films New Moon and Eclipse, held open casting calls for the films. She was quoted as saying, “It was crazy, especially in the early days, in the first four weeks after the announcement that my office was casting these roles we stopped counting emails after 20,000. We had created a dedicated email address for the project. We got so many we had to create another one.”

After an open casting call was posted on Craigslist for The Twilight Saga: New Moon, the day was filled with tears and disappointment as hordes of teens from all over North America were eventually turned away. Since many teens came from far and wide, including some from Florida, Washington, Oregon, and other cities, the early end to the open auditions sparked a wave of emotions as tears began to flow while others in the crowd became angry after standing and waiting almost all night in the Vancouver cold for the casting call.

There are currently three casting companies working on Breaking Dawn 1 & 2, and they all have gone public with email addresses. These email addresses have been flooded to the point of becoming filled to capacity and many submissions are being returned as “undeliverable” or “email not valid”. These email addresses are likely created mainly to appease the masses and are not being used for actual casting purposes.

Information on how parents can submit their child for the role of ‘Renesmee’ in Breaking Dawn Part I can be found on the following blog post:

*SPOILERS* Two new ‘The Twilight Saga: Breaking Dawn’ casting rumors revealed

So far with The Twilight Saga: Breaking Dawn – Part 1and The Twilight Saga: Breaking Dawn – Part 2, no official casting announcements (other than the return of prior castmates) have been made by film studio Summit Entertainment, but at least one addition to the group has announced himself (Rami Malek, of course, who’s thought to be portraying “Benjamin”).

Otherwise, we’ve seen the names Lee Pace and Kayla D.thrown around (“Garrett” and “Renesmee” respectively) to no avail, and now at least two more join the fun as their names have been posted to IMDb.com’s pages for Breaking Dawn Part 1 and Part 2.

The first is Drew Roy, who the site notes is “rumored” to play “Nahuel.” That character, if you can’t quite place the name, is the one which [*spoiler alert*] which comes in at the very end as proof that “Renesmee” wasn’t the only one of her kind in the world and that she would grow up to normal size like the mortal that she is. As the Twilight Saga Wiki points out,  ”Nahuel is described as an extremely handsome young latin man with rich dark brown skin, eyes the color of warm teak, and extremely attractive features. He wears his black hair in braid past his shoulders.” Drew Roy is a film and TV veteran of Hannah MontanaGreek, and others, and you can check out a picture of him here.

The second is Guri Weinberg, who IMDb.com has listed as “Stefan.” “Stefan” was one of the two Romanian vampires who had a particular distaste for the “Volturi” and hoped to see them fall once and for all. Per Twilight Wiki, “He has black hair and dresses in all black.” Guri Weinberg has been in films like Munich and You Don’t Mess With The Zohan. A good photo of him is available here.

Now, the fact that they’re listed on IMDb.com is far from a confirmation of their involvement, since the site is often incorrect (it had a new actress – not Tinsel Korey – listed as “Emily” for a while in Eclipse even after New Moon had been released, for instance). However, every now and again (with Rami Malek, e.g.), such information will be accurate.

Until there’s official word from the appropriate sources (Summit Entertainment, primarily), though, nothing is for sure. Still, it’s fun to discuss these things as they come along . . . so, what are your thoughts on these two for these roles?

Sofia Coppola talks about why she was interested in directing ‘The Twilight Saga: Breaking Dawn’

You probably remember a few months back when the director choice for The Twilight Saga: Breaking Dawn – Part 1 and The Twilight Saga: Breaking Dawn – Part 2 wasn’t quite made, and there were three directors being talked about for the job: Bill Condon (who was later chosen, of course), Gus Van Sant, and Sofia Coppola.

Well, Sofia Coppola spoke with MTV about why she was vying for the position in the first place, saying “I was interested in doing something but I didn’t end up doing it. But I love, I’m impressed by Kristen Stewart and Robert Pattison pulling it off in that whole story . . . And my friend’s kids love the story so much that I thought it would be fun to make something that they love so much . . . I just love that it’s so romantic.”

Bill Condon’s opening words to Twilight fans, you might recall, carried a similar vibe. “The wonderful world that Stephenie has created has obviously struck a chord with you, and I don’t think it’s difficult to see why. For me, her characters are simultaneously timeless, yet very modern. Rooted in a beautiful, real landscape with a great sense of place, Bella, Edward, Jacob, and the rest of the Forks/La Push menagerie, experience emotions that are primal, and universal: desire, despair, jealousy – and it all comes to fruition in BREAKING DAWN. This is a final chapter in the best sense; not just wide in scope and scale, but emotionally charged and intense throughout,” he said.

The Twilight Saga: Breaking Dawn (both) starts production this winter.

‘Twilight’ star Anna Kendrick discusses her Twitter verification idea

Any time a new Twitter page for a castmember from theTwilight series pops up, there’s a whole process hat goes into making sure it’s real. Usually, this involves contacting representation for the castmember or the franchise, and this can take a bit of time.

Anna Kendrick (“Jessica Stanley” in the Twilight Saga) approached her entry into Twitter-dom a bit differently than most: for the photo box on her Twitter page, she posted a photo of herself holding a piece of paper with her Twitter account on it.

In a new interview with Kendrick, she revealed the mindset behind her clever decision.

“That might seem so silly, but I was really proud of myself for thinking of that! I saw a picture once of an actress holding a sign that read, ‘yes, it’s really me’, and I thought that was so clever, but in theory anybody could take that photo and copy it to their site. I don’t come up with many good ideas but that was a killer way to dispel the imposters and all the misinformation on the net.”

It was a great idea, to be sure, and it saved those of us who try to look into such matters a whole bunch of time!

Kendrick went onto talk about Scott Pilgrim Vs. The WorldTwilight, and Up In The Air in the interview, so it’s worth checking out in full here.
